My wife, Carol, and I have owned a condo at Keauhou Punahele since March 2011.
Shortly after we bought our place we entered in a contract with Hawaii Sunset Real Estate to act as our on island property management and also placed our condo in their vacation rental pool.
Nancy Martens was very helpful with restaurants. However, we were VERY disappointed to say the least with this home in Kona. If we would have known about the first two major issues, we would never have rented this house. It was not cheap by any means and we feel that the real estate company was completely irresponsible and deceitful for not bringing these to our attention beforehand! First of all, it is NOT 5 or even 4.5 bathrooms, only 3 full bathrooms. The fourth shower is outside by the pool! The listing agency never tells you that the walls upstairs do not extend all the way up but are open so you can hear absolutely everything between bedrooms and the bath room! No privacy for the master bathroom at all. Then, there were mice or rats running around upstairs at night!!! And, we found mouse/rat poop in the cupboards. There were also tiny white spiders running around on the counters from the time we first checked in and we could never get rid of them! The enclosed shower downstairs has very bad mold/mildew! The whole house was not very clean and the kitchen was very dated and disorganized. The refrigerator smelled awful and was not clean. The electric stovetop was old and intermittent and worked off and on. There was NO propane in the tank for the barbecue and my husband had to go to the service station to refill it! The only redeeming quality of this place was the view that is very good to one side as the other side is blocked by the house below.
My family booked a vacation home for one week through Hawaii Sunset Real Estate. They were easy to book with and extremely friendly. They were reasonably priced and from the pictures, the home was beautiful with an amazing ocean view. We unfortunately had a medical complication in the family and could no longer go on our vacation. I was worried that we would not get our deposit back for the home. Fortunately, the owners were very understanding of our situation and issued us a full refund. We are so thankful and really appreciated their decision. We will certainly go on our big island vacation in the future and Hawaii Sunset Real Estate can count on our business! Carol and I live on the mainland and originally we had notions that buying, owning, and renting from long distance would be a headache and maybe not worth the worry. However, we both have felt that Nancie Martens and her associates at Hawaii Sunset Real Estate have made our experience stress free. On occasion when an appliance needs fixing, or when things need a repair we have found they're resources and recommendations have always lead to a worry free resolution. Just as importantly, the housekeeping staff has been dependable and when we have had the opportunity to use the condo. for our own vacations we have also found it clean and in proper order. We have had repeat customers over the last few years to our condo from Canada and now Japan, which I think speaks positively for how the rental process is handled and to how well they help to keep our condo. an enjoyable place to stay.
