If you have dental insurance, beware. I have a Met Life policy through the VA, available only to veterans. The first time I saw him a little over a year ago for cleaning and check up, I paid the co pay as quoted by his office after the appointment which also agreed with the EOB I received from Met Life. They then tried to bill me for the difference between his "normal" rate and the negotiated rate he agreed to with Met Life. This is a direct violation of the contract with the insurance company. He is listed on the Met Life website as a provider. I called and pointed this out to his receptionist and she said, that I was correct and apologized. I assumed this was just an oversight.
Dr. Shaw is an amazing dentist! I must say that when I first got there, my teeth were so bad because I haven't been to a dentist in years. Dr. Shaw and his friendly team gave me back a beautiful smile! Not to mention his assistant "Leah" is such a good person, she helped me throughout all my dental work! Thank you Dr. Shaw and the friendly team.....
I was wrong. In Feb. 2017 I had 2 appointments, one for cleaning and exam and a second one to replace 2 fillings. The first one I paid the requested co pay, which agreed with the EOB within $2.00, but still, they overcharged me $2.00. The second appointment they charged me a co pay that was $56.00 and change more than the co pay on the EOB from Met Life. After a visit to the office and several phone calls they still won't refund my $58.00. My last message has gone unanswered until a couple of days ago when they called and told me I owed them an additional 150 some dollars. Basically the difference between their "normal" rates and the agreed upon insurance rates. Met Life agrees with me that they have violated the agreement with them and they owe me the money. I have filed a complaint through met Life and hopefully they can get my money back.
In any case, it's not worth wasting your time doing business with them.
There are 2 possible explanations. One, they're totally incompetent and can't read an insurance company agreement or an explanation of benefits, or Two they are purposely trying to swindle the customers.
Dr Shaw and staff strive to be the best they can!!! Follow all state and federal regs! Awesome group!
