If you like to walk along the ocean on dirt-bike trails and lava rock. Here is where you do that.
This is Hawaii's "Big Sky" country with expansive views.
Lovely tiny little beach here. Clear water and beautiful sea plants. Not much things to do here but certainly very relaxing. Limited parking, with 2 restrooms. No wash place.
This area covers two of the Big Island's National Parks: Kaloko-Honokohau NationalHistorical Park and Ala Kahakai Historic Trail. Kahoko_Honoohau National Historical Park features fish ponds, lava fields, and the historical trail. We had walked the Ala Kahiko Historic Trail in the Waikoloa area, so it was interesting to see what it looked like in this area.
This means that you have extraordinary views of sweeping landscapes. Fantastic views of Mauna Loa's gentle slopes and peak. The trail heads along the southernmost area of the USA and includes access to numerous small beaches including a rare green sand beach. There are also several ancient Hawaiian burial grounds along the route.
Highly recommended as long as you use lots of sunscreen and take plenty of water. This trail is very exposed to the sun. There are virtually no shade trees.
Great experience, well labeled self guided tour of some Hawaiian history.
