Genuinely nice people that really want to help you have a good time. Totally recommend. Also, we shopped around and talked with all of the other shops around so save yourself the trouble - they are best.
Our family of 4 went out with Ben, never having had any experience with surfing. In fact, only one of us actually wanted to try it... the rest were very nervous. All of us had such a good time. Ben was instructive, encouraging and supportive. We also interacted with other instructors from this shop, while out in the ocean, and it was such a positive experience! Ben and Tyler were amazing! My wife and I both got up on our first try. Right across the beach, perfect place to learn. Their short instructions (10 -15 minutes) are spot on to get you ready so you have more time to spend in the water. We recommend the 8:30 session, and it helped to try to stick with a single teacher each time as you rotate through your group, that way they have a better idea of how to help. We had 10-12 rides each in the two hour session and it was better than I expected, and I already had high hopes.
My first surf lesson was an outstanding experience. I had a blast. Surfing was on my bucket list for sure. It's something I've wanted to do my entire life. Within the span of a two-hour lesson, I caught enough waves and actually stood up that I could see myself doing a lot more of it. I can't wait to get the rest of my family down here to see these guys and get in the water. I'm so excited for our future as a surfing family. Amazing experience, Ben was terrific, he asked us to reschedule so that we could have better waves. And we definitely did, we were riding the waves already in the first try. This experience helped us to gain the confidence to try ourselves next time. We went for the 8.30 slot which resulted us in having the bay to ourselves for the first hour :) also the others in the group canceled so we ended up receiving a private lesson. Highly highly recommended.
Deb and I were there today and Mike (the fellow from Catalina) was our instructor. It was a joyous and fun 2 hours, and we'd highly recommend this group to anyone who wants to learn more about surfing. Thank you everyone!
