Have taken 2 excursions with this outfit. Both were exceptional. The summit tour for stars and the endangered Hawaii bird tour. Both guides were awesome and the amenities were excellent. Would recommend and will go again
I was amazed by the curtesy and friendliness shown to us by Jeff our tour guide. When we were picked up I knew right away this man of men would show us a favorable time, and boy did he. He drove us in a stylish white limousine disguised as lowly ford shuttle bus to our first destination. As we came to a stop I was deeply saddened as I felt we had just met. However Jeff did not disappoint, he had found a romantic dinner spot hidden deeply within the trees and dilapidated farm structures. I had to admit at this point I was already in love. It didn’t stop there, Jeff just kept raising the bar. Served right away was hot tea, spare ribs with fresh veggies, mouth watering sweet roll and a small dollop of butter. This man was unstoppable. I was taken back slightly as how obvious Hawaii Forest and Trail made their business managment choices by forcing poor Jeff to tell us how they wanted to save the earth by not letting their guests keep the tour provided water containers. I’m a sensible person knowing this would only make sense if they didn’t also sell the same containers in the gift shop. I don’t blame Jeff for this, as he is only an honest tour guide forced to work under such shallow statements. After dinner it was obvious that the Gods that control the wind did not want Jeff to complete his task. Did this slow him down? Absolutely not! Although we were unable to see the sunset on the summit Jeff improvised and took us on a lovely nature hike where we enjoyed a beautiful sunset and lovely evening breeze. Honestly I wasn’t ready for what came next. Jeff drove us to a quite yet romantic small area just past the visitor center. His extensive knowledge of the Hawaiian culture and astronomy made us all very comfortable yet intellectually jealous. Jeff provided a warm jacket, brownies and even hot chocolate as he guided us along our star gazing journey. After a wonderful night of beautiful stars and deeply interesting conversation Jeff drove us safely back down the mountainside to the visitor center. Although I feel our journey was short, the memories we made with Jeff will never be forgotten.
Guide was great! Very knowledgeable and interesting. Very talkative. Be prepared for a lot of riding....and cold. If you are not used to the cold like I am, it will be a very cold trip. I did the sunrise tour to the summit. It was beautiful and well worth getting up at 1 am. Van is comfortable. I read a review before coming, but didn't have any play room, but if you can time the trip on a new moon you'll see a lot more stars. Definitely worth it, don't question it, just go.
Excellent company. I will recommend to anyone. Our tour guide Justin was bad ass. Next time I come to this island I will request him when I book another tour
Went on a star gazing tour to Mauna Kea & it was an incredible experience! The dinner they provided tasted great, our guide Jeff was very knowledgeable & fun, & the views were amazing! I highly recommend this to everyone! The sunset was beautiful & looking at planets & galaxies through a telescope was so cool!
