We took the island volcano tour August 16, 2015 and Cuzin' Greg was our tour guide/driver. He was FANTASTIC and very informative and knowledgeable about the island. We only got about an hour into our tour and the rear end went out of the tour bus. It was 8:00 am Sunday morning so it took about 1-3/4 hours for help to arrive with a new bus. Greg made sure we were kept cool by keeping the a/c on in the bus and kept us updated on the arrival of the calvary. He has a great sense of humor and really felt like a "cuzin'". We thoroughly enjoyed the trip even though it was about 11 hours long. Only complaint we have is paying $15 for a dry turkey sandwich with barely enough meat on it to cover the thin bread. It was at the Rim Restaurant which I would NOT recommend anyone eating there. The servers tried taking our plates away before we had finished eating the skinny sandwich that lacked flavor. We do not blame the tour guide nor tour company for this but want to mention it so other people are aware prior to taking this tour. It really is the only place to eat on this tour around noon. Maybe they could find a spot a little later in the day for lunch.

This is a great island activity option for those that would like to get the most of their time on the Big Island or haven't fully planned their Hawaii vacation yet. The tour gives visitors a great chance to see most of the island. You can handpick the areas you'd like to drive back to yourself .This is a full day. Pick up is anywhere between 7am-8:30am, and drop off is around 7:30pm-8pm. Polynesian Adventure Tours Circle Big Island tour that starts from Kailua Kona will make their first stop at Royal Kona Coffee. There you will be able to taste 100% Kona Coffee and sample some of the island goodies. Then they continue driving to the South side of the Big Island. This is a part of the island that you'll probably want to avoid driving yourself. So taking this tour is perfect, the experienced drivers take care of it all. They also provide lots of great stories and island information. They also stop off at the Punaluu Black sand beach, Punaluu Bakery, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Rainbow Falls in Hilo, Hawaiian Macadamia Nut factory, and more. It will save you money if you take this tour and will be entertained, even if you've been to the Big Island of Hawaii before.

Brought my family of four to the Hawaii Grand Circle Tour & although most of the stops were fine, our tour guide was terrible. "Cousin Jeff" (as he referred to himself), was one of the most disappointing tour guides that I have ever encountered. Not only did he not explain what the tour was or what to expect, I never knew where we were headed, and there was little to no explanation about basic history of the island or information about any of the destinations. He announced that the "people in Hilo are actually pretty rude" and that "they don't really have the aloha spirit," which seemed like more t han a small slight against the locals and an inappropriate comment to the group. He spent a good amount of time complaining about the tourist industry (of which he is a part) and alluded to his pay openly, which I can only assume was an attempt to extract additional tips from the guests. Before we arrived at Rainbow Falls, he told us it was going to be pitiful. There were random words and disconnected sentences with no explanation, and throughout the almost 12-hour ordeal (because he added additional stops for which he was paid by local store owners), he prattled incessantly about unrelated topics and voiced every internal thought inexplicably. His borderline racist/sexist comments about Indians, Filipinos, and women finally clinched our decision to forego a gratuity, which is something we have never omitted before. I would advise Polynesian Adventure Tours to consider recording their tour guides to ensure quality. The tours are not cheap, and there should be SOME expectations of a professional experience for patrons above and beyond simply being able to drive a bus.

This was the best experience I had while we were on vacation! We got a tour of the entire island. We got to visit the Kona Coffee Mill, Volcano, forest, lava tubes (yes we walked through them), a fancy restaurant, black sand beach, witnessed lava, saw the macadamia nut factory, rainbow falls, and etc. This is a bus tour, and you aren't stuck on the bus the entire time. You get off the bus and explore for a fair amount of time. I loved it and would definitely do it again.
